What is digital hygiene?

Hello there!

I hope this finds you well!

A fresh workshop is happening in May over a little passion project … it’s on Digital Hygiene. But what is “Digital Hygiene”? It’s a little bit of digital wellness, digital etiquette, digital ethics and more. Basically, a lot of stuff we already talked about during sessions when discussing your health goals, but with the word “digital” in front of it.

This concept and term landed in mind around 2009 when I started to look around and see what our phones and our relationship with our phones were doing to our personal relationships; to ourselves, to our time, our social gatherings, bodies, postures, nervous systems, communication skills, creativity, confidence and more. I tried to launch a series to support people in this realm in 2018, but, no one signed up – I failed big time)! That said, I think we are ready to made a change at this point … these shiny things are beginning to lose their luster. And while I love a good tarnish, or, patina, I can’t say I love it when I see it proverbially weighing down on the hearts, minds and bodies in the communities we love.

So, needless to say, I’m excited to offer to the community a bit of what I’ve gleaned in private practice over the past 15 years while observing, researching, and taking many many notes on what does an does not seem to work.

What I’ve learned is that many of us are largely tired, overwhelmed, overwhelmed and unconscious. Yet, we also feel like we either have no choice, no clue where to begin, or, no control over our knee jerk reactions to login to the digital world instead of connecting with this physical world around us. We all want more. And, guess what, you can have more. You just need the right tools, systems, people, habits, and messages filtering through your life. You do have the capacity to change – and if you doubt this I’m here to help guide you there.

BIG QUESTION … How did we get into a place where the promises of technology making things easier actually created new “found” expectations of never-being-off? Of always being available? It has become normalized for the average modern human feel like they are drowning a little helplessly in our own little oceans of overwhelm. There is a deep need for change on many fronts, two of which include advocacy (for your health, freedom and life) and also a reality check … we landed here through a series of many choices and agreements to play along with the silently creeping expectations that you function at the speed of a robot, which is impossible. You are a human and you deserve the rights to live your life as a happy and free human – and to move at the speed of a human.

If you’re ready for change, ready to reclaim your time, your mind and your energy – and if you’re ready to find balance with these tools of technology versus feeling beholden, come join us. Again, we are all longing for more connection and community – and the only way through is through – why not let us do this together? In real life? Where we an sense ones another real presence, laughter and stories in person?
